Happy St. Nicholas Day!!!!!

So you may be wondering why there are wooden clogs posted here, but to the Schmidts, every December 6th means wooden shoes stuffed with candy. Why do we have wooden clogs? I don't know. Is this even a real holiday? maybe. Why do we celebrate it? ask Sue Schmidt. (she'll make something up)

According to Wikipedia: While feasts of Saint Nicholas are not observed nationally, cities with strong German influences like Milwaukee, Cincinnati, and St. Louis celebrate St. Nick's Day on a scale similar to the German custom. On the previous night, children put one empty shoe (or sock) outside, and, on the following morning of December 6, the children awake to find that St. Nick has filled their previously empty footwear with candy and small presents (if the children have been "good") or ostensibly, coal (if not). For these children, the relationship between St. Nick and Santa Claus is not clearly defined, although St. Nick is usually explained to be a helper of Santa. The tradition of St. Nick's Day is firmly established in the Milwaukee and St. Louis communities, with parents often continuing to observe the day with even their adult children.

We definitely have the adult thing down. My mom has not let one St. Nicholas day go uncelebrated, even if we have no idea why we celebrate it in the first place....

"She was obsessed with you in high school....."

Thanks to Megan Hogan, this statement caused many awkward moments at my 5 year reunion last night...which was amazing! To report, nothing much has changed, but I did reaffirm my suspicion that I graduated with the best class to ever attend Shrewsbury High School. Dare I say the best class of any high school in C.Mass.....? Go colonials.

Hollywood.

"Where do you live, and when can I come over?!"

BIG NEWS!

okkkkk I'm not engaged or anything, but......I got my hair colored!!!!! even better. After 5 hours spread out over 2 days, the A-Mazing colorists at PR&Partners removed the black and now (drum roll please) I am a red-head again. It all came about when I became sick of the look of disgust on the stylists faces after viewing my bright red roots vs. my black hair. They called it the "hot head" look, but they didn't realize that the flaming red was actually my natural hair color, and not just some "amateur stylist's mistake from another salon." Yes, every stylist at my salon thinks they're God's gift to the blow-dryer, and yes, every stylist at my salon is a diva. And I mean EVERY SINGLE ONE.

An example.......

Receptionist: how long did it take to get the black out?
Me: 5 hours!
Receptionist: Oh that's not that long...that's pretty standard.
Ferdi (a master stylist): I could have done it in an hour. I'm amazing. (he walks away like the little miss sassy pants he is)

Pictures to come....

My first blog...ever.

So I've had a few requests to begin a blog, which I'm not quite sure why....except that these requesters usually conclude their request by saying that I'm crazy, and reading my blog would make them feel better about themselves. Frankly, I'm the sanest person I know. Fact: I quit a law firm to manage a hair salon/spa. Fact: I think the greatest thing that ever happened to me was the release of B. Spear's new album. Fact: I put on fake tats to fit in at aforementioned salon/spa....you know, just grown-up stuff.

Perhaps the greatest thing that happened to me last week (besides the Britney CD...FANtastic!) was finding out that all the services offered at the salon/spa are FREE! for me. Imagine the delight on my face after asking how much everything costs and being told it's all free. Imagine the look on the owner's face after responding to my pricing questions thirteen thousand times and saying "free" all thirteen thousand times. I wonder if he's realizing that I have a few ulterior motives for taking the job....
